Stories Event #1: Popcorn, craft beer and captivating stories
What a turn out for our first Stories event on 12 March! We welcomed over 40 marketing managers, digital strategists and journalists yesterday evening at our offices. The scene was set with popcorn and a fully stocked SMACK! Republic bar with their famous craft beers on tap. We wanted to create a platform for top industry players to generate conversation and innovative ideas around brands and the convergence of media.
Among the guests were Arye Kellman, Creative Director at Cliff Central, Ben Kelly, Special Projects Manager at the Mail & Guardian, and Keneilwe Rapudungoane, Brand and Communications Manager at MTN to name but a few. It was fantastic to see many of our clients too.
The Maggs on Media team was also there to cover the event and interview our CEO Tom Manners. “The event was as much fun as it was an incredible success and we look forward to doing it again soon. There has never been a better time to come together and discuss concepts affecting the South African communications space.”
Tom opened Stories with an engaging talk on with practical examples of what successful content marketing looks like in the South African media landscape. Patrick Conroy, Managing Director of eNCA and eSat news services, followed with a talk on the role of traditional media in content marketing to amplify messages and the challenge of distribution.
As an award winning reporter for print and broadcast, Patrick believes, “It’s important not to sell the media a finished product, but rather too include them in the pre-planning to build trust and so that they remain independent editorial contributors.”
